The Nymi Journals: Understanding Security

How We Are Using Cryptography To Create Trust and Rewarding Experiences

Here at Bionym, we know that one of the most, if not the most, important factor for the Nymi’s success is its security. The Nymi can do a lot of amazing things with identity, but they need to be done with both security and convenience in mind. We want to establish trust – trust between the devices and services you use every day and yourself. Security is a big part of creating these trusted interactions, and subsequent rewarding experiences.

We are Nymi wearers as well, so it’s important to us that all of the components of the Nymi have been created by the principles of Privacy By Design. Everything involving the Nymi is opt-in based – controlled right down to the hardware level. There is no tracking, no surveillance, and no monitoring. Your data is stored locally. You alone control your data.

To that end, we’ve created the Nymi with a multi-factor security system. We’ve also brought together some of the best and brightest minds to think about exploring secure interactions with the Nymi.

Yevgeniy Vahlis, our Chief Cryptographer (you may remember him for his article on Bitcoin http://www.huffingtonpost.com/yevgeniy-vahlis/bitcoin-identity-and-dece_b_5398577.html), talks to us about what he’s doing to make sure you can make the most of your identity without fearing a breach in security.

We want to give you a more thorough understanding of what the Nymi is and can do. Is there something you want to see? What excites you about the Nymi? Message us on Twitter @Nymiband and tweet #NymiJournals to let us know what you think.
