Expansion of the Nymi Beta SDK - We Want Your Input!

Happy New Year, Nymi Dev Army!

It's an amazing time for us here at Nymi HQ: we celebrated the end of 2014 with the release and first shipments of the Nymi Band Discovery Kit, and now we are kicking off the New Year with a bunch of exciting news for our growing, vibrant Developer Community.

We love how vocal and enthusiastic our Community members have been with their feedback. We’ve shared in your thrill as you've pulled the wrapping off your newly-shipped Nymi Band Discovery Kit, slid the covers off the box, opened the drawer, and felt the finish of your Carbon Nymi Band for the first time. Even better, when you saw your heart’s unique signature (your ECG) for the first time as you set up your Nymi Band with the Nymi Companion - making your Nymi Band your own. This all leads to the best part: Finally trying your applications with real Nymi Bands! Trust us when we say, we are as psyched as you are!

Thanks for sending us your kudos, congratulations and suggestions for improvement! If you haven’t already, please send us your unboxing videos and images using the #GotNymi hashtag.

But we're just getting started!

In 2015, we will be focusing on an aggressive, continually-validated roadmap of development, social and marketing tools to integrate with the Nymi Platform. We'd like to give you a sneak preview of what's to come in the balance of the first quarter and invite you to provide us your thoughts on our plans:

  • First, we'll be supporting a wider community of Nymi Developers via expansion of platforms for the Nymi Companion App (the software that enables a User to be paired with a Nymi Band), adding Android and Mac OSX to the Windows support we launched with, and additional platforms down the line.
  • We'll soon be introducing a completely-revamped higher-level SDK layer, taking many of the standard Nymi Band interaction points and merging them into plug-n-play functions, wrapped for Objective C, C# / .NET and Java. This is being built completely based on the feedback you gave us on how you'd like to see the SDK become easier to use. Of course this will come with all the sample code you will need to easily visualize how to drop Nymi auth onto your projects in just a few hours.
  • We will be introducing newly-detailed documentation, instructions and sample code for Global Signatures, the Nymi platform capability that allows Nymi Band Users to associate their Nymi Bands to cloud-based accounts across numerous public or shared terminals. This is one of the most powerful aspects of the platform and we can't wait to see what you're going to do with it.
  • Proximity detection will get a lot smarter. It will allow your applications to read and react to the relative distance from the User’s Nymi Band in a much simpler, faster and repeatable manner, going beyond sole reliance on RSSI.
  • Now that the NBDK is in circulation, many of you have asked us about our plans for streaming APIs, such as motion gestures and electrocardiogram (ECG) streaming. We’re pleased to let you know that raw ECG streaming for up to 7 minutes at a time to a paired Nymi-enabled application is currently enabled (ref: http://developers.nymi.com/sdk/group__stream_functions.html). In addition, raw accelerometer or gyroscope streams will be enabled as function calls in the SDK this quarter as well as support for a simple tap gesture, allowing you to build experiences that enable securely-authenticated Users to interact touch-free with your applications.

And this is just where we’re starting for 2015. We have lots of other features on the roadmap that we will continue to refine and validate, and we’d love your thoughts on what we should be doing, how and in what order. Give us your input on these initial items and what you’d like to see next. You can reach us directly at dev@nymi.com, on our Developer Forums at dev.nymi.com or on Twitter at @NymiDev.

This is your platform, your SDK. Own it! Let’s go.
